For years now, Americans have been told that their diet and sedentary lifestyle is putting their hearts at risk. Despite all the awareness, heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in our country, accounting for 1 in every 4 deaths, and affecting significantly more men than women.
This February, join Good Days in, not just raising awareness, but taking action to help prevent heart disease. It’s American Heart Month, so the time to make a difference is right now. The good news? Making healthy choices and managing your health conditions is all it takes to save lives and change this terrible trend.
So tell everyone you know. Spread the word about strategies for preventing heart disease and encourage people to live heart healthy lives.
Last month, we gave you 10 things you can do to stave off heart disease in your life. Here are a few more suggestions:
- Encourage everyone to make small changes, like using spices to season their food instead of salt.
- Encourage teachers and administrators to include physical activity as a part of the school day. Teaching everyone at a young age about the risks can change the future.
- Ask doctors and nurses to speak out in the community about ways to prevent heart disease.

- Host a community event where families can be active while learning about local health resources.
